What To Wear For YOUR Senior Photos

What To Wear For YOUR Senior Photos

by | Jan 13, 2025 | Senior Photos

Hey seniors! Your senior year is a big milestone, and one of the best ways to celebrate it is by capturing this moment with an amazing senior photo session. As a photographer, I’ve seen firsthand how the right outfit can make all the difference. So, I’m here to help you plan what to wear, ensuring you feel confident and look your absolute best during your session.

1. Be Yourself!

Your senior photos should represent you. While it’s great to draw inspiration from Pinterest or social media, your outfit choices should reflect your personality and style. Whether you love bold colors, neutral tones, or have a more laid-back vibe, wear what makes you feel most comfortable and confident.

2. Plan Multiple Outfits

Most senior photo sessions allow for a couple of outfit changes, which is a great opportunity to showcase different sides of your personality. I suggest bringing:

  • A casual look: Think jeans, a cozy sweater, or a cute sundress—something you’d wear on a day out with friends.
  • A dressier outfit: Something a bit more polished, like a nice dress, skirt, or a blazer with slacks. This gives your photos a timeless feel.
  • Something fun or unique: Do you play a sport? Love band tees? Bring something that represents a hobby or passion—this can be super personal and creative.

3. Coordinate Colors with Your Session Location

It’s important to consider where your session will take place. If we’re shooting in a park or a location with a lot of greenery, soft colors like pastels, whites, or earthy tones will complement the natural background beautifully. If you’re shooting in an urban setting, bolder colors, patterns, or sleek blacks can really pop against the cityscape.

4. Stay Away from Distracting Patterns

While patterns can be fun, it’s best to avoid anything too busy, like tiny checks, loud stripes, or large logos, as these can take attention away from your face. Solid colors or subtle prints are much better at keeping the focus on you.

5. Accessorize, but Don’t Overdo It

A well-placed accessory can elevate your outfit, whether it’s a statement necklace, a hat, or a great pair of shoes. However, avoid wearing too many accessories at once. We want your photos to be about you, not the accessories. Less is more!

6. Consider Layers and Textures

Layering is a great way to add dimension and visual interest to your photos. Think jackets, scarves, or cardigans. Textures like knits, denim, or lace also photograph beautifully and can add depth to your images. Just be sure that your layers don’t add unnecessary bulk.

7. Make Sure It Fits!

It might sound obvious, but make sure your outfits fit well and are comfortable. Avoid anything too tight or too loose, as these can be unflattering in photos. Sit down, move around, and make sure you feel good in every position.

8. Grooming Counts

No matter what you wear, personal grooming plays a huge role in how your final images turn out. Make sure your hair is neat (or messy in that cute, styled way), and if you wear makeup, go for a look that enhances your natural beauty. This isn’t the time to try a brand-new style or product, just stick with what you know works for you.

9. Footwear Matters

Even if you’re not planning on showing off your shoes in every shot, they matter. Choose shoes that match the tone of your outfit and that you feel comfortable walking or standing in for a while. For instance, if you’re wearing a nice dress, avoid pairing it with beat-up sneakers.

10. Get Ready to Have Fun!

Ultimately, your senior photos should be a reflection of who you are in this amazing moment of your life. The best way to look good is to feel good, so choose outfits that make you feel like the best version of yourself and get ready to have a blast during your session!

If you’re ever unsure about what to wear, feel free to bring a couple of options to your session. I’m always happy to help guide you in choosing the best look for each location and shot.

Let’s capture this moment, and make sure you look and feel fabulous!
